PART ONE
The lady that wrote this diary was a thinking little lass. The first thing you notice when opening the diary is her index. The diary was given to her by Jack whom I believe to be her grandson as a Christmas present in 1948. She says Christmas 1948 but I think she means 1947 as she is writing this in January of 1948. She has a dog named Tip or Tippy. She goes to a B.B. game and Norman won 33-36. After the game she goes to a high school dance. She is not what we in this day and age would call politically correct as you will notice when reading this diary. E-Bay would kick this off if I put it here. Has to do with funny descriptions and totally ok at that time. Went to Sunday school and stayed for Church to listen to Chow Shoo from China talk. Veta takes some kind of medical treatment and goes to Guild meetings. Jack took several friends to class in the Frisco Special, not sure what that is but must be a pet name for his car. Possibly a convertible. She talks about going grocery shopping and then to the locker. Meat locker? Enid 2nd conference game and got beat. Folks moved in upstairs over us. Still cold. Jack and Billy went bowling in town. Veta went on a bob sled ride and then Mex Chili supper at the County Club. Took Jack to Ed Bldg to go to the city he got a cab Veta and me listened to ball game Enid got beat. Toms party, Jacks youth meeting at the Pres Church (Veta and me tired) We all went to S.S. V. and me staid for Church came out J. wasn’t there started home. There Jack was in a Cab a switch train hit him and didn’t hurt him thanks to god but sure did mangle the car. Bonds for city improvement did not carry. Jack still looks hollow eyed after wreck. Veta shampooed hair, Tip funny. Jack and Sam to Aunt Jamima breakfast for B.B. Boys at Nicks Store Jack bought groceries. Veta home for lunch. Cold. Jack to depot and town. Home late. Bill came after him Veta to B.B. Game Enid won over Capital Hill Jack to Lil Abner dance. All of this was taken only from the first 30 days from January 1 to January 30 1948.
Some of the names mentioned are; Jack, David, Tom Kennedy, Dick, Veta, Al, Homer, Ethel, Billy, Phill, Lola, Edna, Mark, Horace, Mrs. Prentice, Mrs. Mercer, Bill Richards, Dale Holt, Spike Jones, Gants
Some of the locations mentioned are; Muskogee, Enid, Houston, Phillips, Shawnee, Aline, El Reno, Okla. City, Guthery
From what I can gather after looking at both diaries is that Mamo is writing this, Edna and Bill are mother and father or stepfather and Jack wrote the other Diary. Vetta or Veta is his sister and Tip or Tippy is there dog. Mamo is grandmother and
lives with them. The author of diary #2 stops writting in May of 1949. Because of the authors implied health I believe she becomes either too infirm to continue writting or passes away.
In the diary that Mamo wrote is a photo of possibly Vetta or Veta and Tippy.
